Cavitation Erosion of Ni-Based Superalloys Manufactured by Forging and Additive Manufacturing

چکیده

Inconel pipes that transport cryogenic fluids in rocket engines manufactured by additive manufacturing (AM) were eroded cavitation. The AM method selective laser melting (SLM) was used to manufacture at lower cost, but had seemingly erosion resistance. cavitation properties of 625 and 718 are studied as a function hardness surface roughness with the ASTM G134 cavitating jet. samples 3 conditions, deposited/as applications, machined polished, for both forged manufacturing. Indentation reveals slight hardening samples. X-ray diffraction (XRD) shows similar polycrystalline γ-Ni-based microstructure all Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images cut cross-sections reveal fractures pits, well some porosity case SLM Images surfaces during fracture mechanisms: start quickly on pits scratches. SLM718 found have good resistance if machined, while SLM625 comparatively poorer As-deposited lowest resistance, surprisingly more resistant than polished.

MODELLING THE MATERIAL PROPERTIES AND BEHAVIOUR OF Ni-BASED SUPERALLOYS

At the last two Superalloy meetings at Seven Springs, work on the development of thermodynamic modelling tools for application to multi-component Ni-based superalloys has been presented. Such modelling has become quite widespread, providing significant benefit. However, its applicability often falls short from directly providing the information that is actually required and, by itself, cannot b...

High Temperature Nanoindentation of Ni-base Superalloys

Novel techniques for characterizing and assessing the properties of Ni-base superalloys are becoming increasingly important to the accelerated development of new structural alloys and the advancement of physics-based mechanical property models. Instrumented indentation techniques have long served as a useful approach for probing the mechanical response of a wide range of engineering materials. ...

Characterization of Additive Manufactured Objects

Hybrid Layered Manufacturing (HLM) combines the benefits of both subtractive and Additive Manufacturing (AM). In this paper authors did characterization of AM components by using Kernel Average Misorientation (KAM), Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) and hardness tester. The main focus is on matrix integrity during Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) deposition and surface quality during machinin...

Comparison of cavitation erosion rate with liquid impingement erosion rate

Both cavitation erosion and liquid impingement erosion are phenomena that can cause pipe wall thinning in power plants. The Code for Power Generation Facilities, Rules on Pipe Wall Thinning Management, was published by the JSME (Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers) in 2005. The code says that cavitation erosion shall be prevented either in the design stage or by daily inspection. On the other...
